Tailoring an Event for a Music Lover
is a nostalgic event inspired by my friend May. She is a music enthusiast who loves spending valuable time with friends and socializing. Inspired by her interests, the event captures the essence of the 2000s emo/punk-pop scene.

The person I interviewed was my friend May. We’ve been friends for over 10 years. My take-way is that May cherishes valuable moments with her friends, often attending concerts and immersing herself in music, which accompanies her wherever she goes. With her outgoing and charismatic nature, I aim to emphasize her love for friends and socializing while incorporating the essence of music. Which is why , I have selected the pop-up event, Emo Night.
What is your favorite holiday and why?
M: I love Halloween! The best time to be yourself. Dressing up is always neat!
What is something you love to do?
M: I love to go to concerts with my friends.
What is a perfect party/event like for you?
M: Anything with music and fun, a picnic or an outside party!!
What kind of music are you into?
I really enjoy listening to old music. Pop punk and emo music.
What things do you associate with your hometown?
M: Cali is palm trees, people and the sun.
When the pandemic is over, who do you want to gather with?
M: Friends from all around! Covid has made it hard to see all the friends I’ve made
Designing for someone else's needs posed a challenge, requiring a thoughtful approach. I curated these images that reflect the meaning of emo/ punk to me. Through research, I found the importance of creating a design that highlights music as a key element.
The logo design incorporates the concept of a skull throwing up music sheet. The mix of these elements not only captures the essence of the emo culture but also establishes a memorable and attention-grabbing visual identity for the Emo Night event.
These typefaces were use to emphasize the raw, expressive nature of the era.
Ballers Deligh
t exudes a playful and dynamic energy, featuring bold, curvy lines that evoke a sense of movement and excitement.
Battery Pack is a heavily distressed stencil typeface, exuding urgency and grit, ideal for impactful and edgy designs.
Designed to capture the energetic vibe of our event. The colors electric blue and neon yellow were chosen to bring the vibrancy and contrast. Layered elements such as textures, stickers and fonts add depth and visual interest. Together these component create an eye-catching visuals that complements the grunge/emo look.
The inspiration for this take-away came from K-pop concerts, specifically the popular concert light sticks. These are used to enhance the vibe and atmosphere of concerts, parties, and festivals. To maintain brand cohesiveness, the event icon was 3D rendered and used as the head of the light stick.
